Park City student places in top third of national technology competition

Mack Hastings had previously taken first place at States in the dragster competition of the Manufacturing and Transportation Technology category.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Mack Hastings, a rising ninth-grade Park City School District student, participated in the CO2 Dragster competition at the National Conference for the Technology Student Association (TSA). He placed in the top 30 against over 100 competitors. The Park City Education Foundation (PCEF) funds TSA’s Mustang After School Academy (MASA) at Treasure Mountain.

Hastings put over 40 hours of time into design, construction, and technical drawing for the competition. 

PCEF vice president of advancement Jen Billow said in a statement that Hastings’ participation in the race was “cool news during these hot days.”

The car traveled 20 meters in 1.210 seconds, clocking in at a speedy 74 mph. The top cars clocked in at .956 seconds.
