Flood Watch issued for Weber River near Oakley

Weber River Flood Watch June 6-8, 2024

OAKLEY, Utah – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Weber River near Oakley through Saturday afternoon (6/8/24). Flood stage may be reached just after midnight tonight (Thursday, June 6).

Warm temperatures will further increase mountain snowmelt. Minor flooding will affect roads, structures, and fields along the Weber River above Rockport Reservoir, focused upstream of the Weber-Provo canal. Homes and residences at the mouth of Upper Weber Canyon may also experience minor flood damage.

Swift Water Safety

Stay at least 15 feet from river banks and use an abundance of caution to keep children and pets away from the water.

If someone falls in the water, do not immediately jump into the river after them. Stay calm and call 911. If possible, designate someone to be on the phone and bring the rescuers to your exact location.

Reach, throw, go! This is the standard you should follow when someone has fallen into the water. First, if you can reach someone who has fallen with your arm and pull them out, do so. If not, try to throw a rope or a large stick into the water so they can grab onto it and be pulled out. Jumping into the water after them should only be the last effort.
