Join the annual Park City Memorial 5k on May 25

PARK CITY, Utah — Since May 2009, the Park City Memorial 5k has brought members of the Park City High School National Honor Society (NHS) and the community together to remember those they’ve lost and carry on their legacies. Come run with the NHS on May 25 starting at Park City High School.

A growing movement for healing

The event started out as the PC5 when five young students from Park City lost their lives within a six-month span in 2008. As the years have passed, PCHS has continued to honor those students and other PCHS alumni and community members that have since passed. In the first year the goal was to raise $30,000 to build a school in Ecuador. This year the goal is $40,000.

Race information

Registration is from 8-8:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, and the race starts at 9 a.m. at Dozier Field at Park City High School, located at 1750 Kearns Boulevard in Park City.

The PCHS Memorial 5K begins at Dozier Field and loops through the scenery of the Park Meadows Neighborhood. All race times are recorded and medals are awarded to the top four finishers in each category. Complimentary snacks and water will be provided and a raffle of themed gift baskets will occur after the race. The event is intended to be a fun and supportive atmosphere for runners of all ages and experience levels.

Donations go to the following charities:

  • Labs For Liberty: Pairing veterans or families of fallen veterans with service animals to help them heal, NHS partners with L4L to sponsor as many service animals as possible and match them to Park City military families.
  • Homeless Youth Center of Salt Lake: A nonprofit shelter dedicated to providing housing and resources to Utah’s homeless youth, charting them on a path to a better future in a supportive social and educational community.
  • NHS Humanitarian projects: This summer, many of our members will participate in humanitarian projects in Rumicruz, Ecuador to create a community center that will support small businesses and help the area survive.
  • NHS Scholarships: Scholarships are given to selected seniors that have been through and overcome hardships in life. These scholarships will help with their first year of college tuition.

Donations and member pledges

All NHS Members are trying to raise a specific amount of money in donations to support our meaningful causes. Many NHS Members collect donations in the form of pledges per kilometer/mile or lump sums of money. If you wish to support a specific NHS Member, please navigate to their individual pledge page to make a donation. You can also give cash and checks to NHS Members.

The Park City School District is a 501-c3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. So far $14,952 have been donated this year. Please contact Noah Canada or Kardin Salem with questions.

As Dana Williams said many years ago about this race: “It’s a great moment to kind of come together and regardless of how we change, realize, it’s still a small town and people care about each other, and we need to show that more often.”
