Summit County singer competes in Top 24 round of ‘American Idol’
KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Kaibrienne “KB” Richins, a 20-year-old singer from Henefer, Utah, found herself in a sing-off against Alyssa Raghu on season 22 of American Idol. Raghu was a former top eight contestant from Season 17. The women were tasked with performing “Shallow” from “A Star is Born” with only an hour’s preparation.
After a boost of confidence from her vocal coach, Richins’ rendition of “Shallow” ultimately secured her a spot in the top 24 contestants, earning high praise from the judges. Katy Perry noted it was “the best she ever sounded,” while Luke Bryan highlighted Richins’ performance as a triumph.
Last night, Richins competed in night one of the Top 24 round, a stage where public votes can influence the outcome. She sang Bryan Adams’ “Heaven” with her signature rasp.
Part two of the Top 24 round will air tonight, April 8, at 7 p.m. MDT. The Top 20 will be revealed on April 14 at 7 p.m. MDT.
