Kitchen fire temporarily closes Ruth’s Chris restaurant

The restaurant was evacuated and no one was injured

PARK CITY, Utah — Ruth’s Chris steak house in Park City is temporarily closed following a kitchen fire on Thursday, April 11.

According to Sean Briley, PCFD battalion chief, crews were called to the restaurant, located inside Hotel Park City at 2001 Park Avenue, at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters were told that the fire in the kitchen area had been put out, but active flames were found after further investigation.

“They saw quite a bit of smoke coming out of a stack next to the kitchen, and it was unusually dark and a lot of volume, a lot of pressure,” Briley said. “So they went in in full fire gear investigated, and it appeared to be out because it was pulling all the smoke out of the hood system, but when we pulled some drop ceiling above it they found some active flame activity.”

Firefighters put out the flames, then proceeded to pull apart equipment, insulation, and ductwork in the kitchen to ensure that no fire activity remained.

The kitchen sustained extensive damage, and Briley estimated that the restaurant would remain closed for a matter of weeks. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Ruth’s Chris did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
