Summit County to host community session on future of Ure Ranch Feb. 29

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County has announced an information session for the community regarding the future of the Ure Ranch, an 834-acre property acquired from the Ure family in March 2023.

When: Thursday, Feb. 29, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kamas Services Building located at 110 N. Main St.

Why: Engage the public in the planning process and share insights gathered from previous community feedback

What:

  • Summary of the findings from hundreds of public comments received thus far:
    • 5.77% of people want the property to be used for community housing
    • 6.15% education
    • 16.54% public recreation
    • 17.69% agriculture
    • 33.08% open space
    • 20.77% of people had concerns or comments
  • Concept of a “conservation easement” and its implications for the future of Ure Ranch
  • Public engagement activity


Background

The Ure Ranch, located in the Kamas Valley, has a history that dates back to its homesteading in 1892. Acquired in the spring of 2023, the property has been earmarked for conservation efforts.
