Stewart Peay announces candidacy for Utah’s Third Congressional seat
SALT LAKE CITY – After Rep. John Curtis, the current officeholder, declared his candidacy for the vacant Senate seat in Utah, Stewart Peay, former Chairman of the Utah County Republican Party, officially entered the race to vie for the representation of Utah’s third Congressional District.
Peay is a 12-year Utah Army National Guard veteran and also served a year overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The competition for Utah’s third Congressional seat, encompassing Wasatch County and a significant portion of Summit County, including Park City, in the U.S. House of Representatives, is intensifying as Case Lawrence and state Sen. Mike Kennedy established exploratory committees last month.
Rep. Curtis, who has represented the third Congressional District since 2017, recently announced his intent to run for Senate, prompting Peay’s candidacy.
“As a longtime resident of this district and lifelong resident of Utah, we embody true American principles better than any district in the country. Now more than ever, we need conservative leadership in Congress to ensure American strength and independence, individual liberty and middle class prosperity,” Peay said.
Peay, a resident of Alpine, practices law and is a partner at Snell & Wilmer, specializing in commercial litigation.
“The challenges that our country faces, both at home and abroad, must be dealt with now,” said Peay. “The Utah values on which I was raised – where hard work is rewarded and families are respected – need to be protected from Biden, Bernie and big government bureaucracy that seeks to change the character of a nation that has inspired generations.”
In 2020, amid the pandemic and numerous elections, Peay served as the Chairman of the Utah County Republican Party.
During this time Peay and his team successfully managed to regain Republican control over Utah County and Utah’s Fourth Congressional District.
