Kris Campbell announces candidacy for Utah House District Four

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – Kris Campbell has formally submitted candidacy as a Democratic candidate for the position of state representative in Utah House District Four.

House District Four comprises parts of Summit, Daggett, Duchesne, Morgan, and Rich Counties and includes towns in Summit County, such as Wanship, Kamas, Oakley, and Coalville.

Campbell will face incumbent representative Kera Birkeland in the 2024 election, who has been in office since 2020 and filed her candidacy earlier this month.

Campbell is not new to the campaign trail, as he ran for this same seat in 2022 and hopes to build on that experience in 2024.

A native of eastern Wyoming, Campbell moved to Summit County in the early 2000s and has lived in unincorporated Summit County for 14 years.

Campbell’s initiative aims to emphasize collaborative decision-making at the local level, with a perspective that sees the legislature’s role as allocating funds, offering high-level guidance and endorsing decisions made by local communities. Additionally, he advocates for transparent, open decision-making procedures that actively gather, assess and integrate inputs from all relevant groups and individuals.

Using these approaches to legislature, Campbell hopes to find collaborative solutions to address housing, health care, and water needs in Summit County.

Campbell, a transgender man, proudly serves on the leadership team of Park City’s LGBTQ+ Task Force, aiming to foster inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community and promote a sense of belonging in the Wasatch Back.

Additionally, he functions as the program director at Mountain Mediation Center, offering communication skills training and organizing community conversations to enhance understanding and connection.
