Donna Matturro McAleer’s Bicycle Collective opens new Hub for transportation equity

Salt Lake City, Utah — Park City’s Donna Matturro McAleer is celebrating the soft opening of the brand new Hub headquarters of the Bicycle Collective in Salt Lake City which is included in the state-wide network of buildings in St. George, Provo, and Ogden.

On Tuesday, the Executive Director made the equidistant drive from her home in Park City between there and her other job at Deer Valley to open the building which has been 10 years in the making.

The Salt Lake Bicycle Collective works closely with Park City nonprofits like The Sunrise Rotary Club, The Peace House, The Park City School District, and the Park City Community Foundation.

The multi-million dollar Hub is a product of pride resulting from private sector, public sector and government sector grants, as well as continued welcome donations. Further donations to the overall mission of providing bikes may be made here.

Former professional bobsledder Matturro McAleer has parleyed her strong community connections in an ongoing effort to, as she told TownLift, “Reduce, reuse, and recycle bikes as most can be repaired and refurbished to have a long life, and we want to encourage people to think about us as an organization to support through donating parts, components, and bikes.” She went on to say, “If people know someone in need of a bike, who can’t afford one or don’t have another means of self-reliant transportation, reach out to us because transportation equity is crucial.” She explains that, “Transportation is a formidable barrier to economic mobility, if you can’t get from point A to point B, it’s pretty hard to sustain a job.”

Many years after her graduation from West Point and a couple of years after her U.S. Congressional campaign, she came on board and began the dedicated project to open the new building which shortly thereafter was interrupted by the pandemic.

She says she would be remiss if she didn’t give the much-deserved credit for the new building to multiple project partners. Without them, the Collective couldn’t employ so many, and have a space for so many more to volunteer.

Hap Seliga is just one of the Collective’s board members from Park City guiding the organization’s growth. He’s joined by the Collective’s digital strategist from Park City, Thomas Cook.

The highly sustainable building’s solar paneled roof sits in a revitalizing area of the city. It was an empty lot for the past 10 years.

The new location, in Salt Lake City, from the 9 Line, is at 325 West, 900 South at the intersection of Gale Street and Harvey Milk Boulevard and the official grand opening will be in the Spring of 2024.
