SLC airport plans to welcome over 30,000 visitors before and after Thanksgiving
The Salt Lake City International Airport is currently the 22nd busiest airport in North America and the 60th busiest in the world
SALT LAKE CITY — Holiday travelers beware: the Salt Lake City International Airport anticipates welcoming tens of thousands of visitors this Thanksgiving weekend.
According to a press release from the airport, the busiest travel days are expected to be Wednesday and the Friday following Thanksgiving. Some 30,000 passengers are slated to arrive at the airport’s front doors on both days, with even more connecting.
The airport has provided the following tips for smooth holiday travel this season:
- Check the airline’s website or app before leaving for the airport to ensure flights are on time and have not been delayed due to weather.
- Check in online through the airline’s website or app before leaving for SLC to expedite the process at the airport.
- Arrive two hours before the flight boarding time for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.
- Reserve airport parking in advance at www.slcairport.com/parking-and-transportation/parking/, which offers numerous parking options and rates. The Economy Parking Lot has been reconfigured into a blue and a red section to improve service and convenience. (Alternate parking areas will be opened if the Economy Parking Lot reaches capacity.)
- Plan ahead and review what you’re allowed to pack in carry-on luggage. Go to TSA.gov to learn what is permitted.
- Remain in the newly-expanded Park and Wait lot until passengers are curbside and ready to be picked up.
Local musicians will perform in the terminal today, and airport volunteers will be available to assist passengers throughout the facility.
More than 300 flights now depart daily from the Salt Lake City International Airport to 90 nonstop destinations.
The airport is undergoing a $5.1 billion redevelopment program. Phase 2 of the project opened earlier this year, adding 22 additional gates to Concourse A-east and bringing Park City favorites Vessel Kitchen and Hugo Coffee Roasters to airport guests.
