Fatal wreck and gas spill closes I-84 and Old Highway 30 between Henefer and Echo Junction

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — I-84 and Old Highway 30 (Echo Road) are closed between Henefer and Echo Junction due to a fatal semi truck wreck and gasoline spill.

According to Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash happened approximately 12:40 pm. Roden said a fuel tanker lost control and the trailer started to spin. The semi truck rolled and the tank on the truck itself became disconnected. The trailer also rolled and was on its side.

KUTV reports that the adult male driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

According to a statement from Summit County, westbound I-80 traffic cannot merge onto I-84, and eastbound I-84 traffic is being rerouted back to Ogden at mile marker 115.

The closure is anticipated to last several hours. North Summit Fire Service District and the Summit County Health Department are on the scene.
