Join in on the Summit/Wasatch County Walk to End Alzheimer’s

PARK CITY, Utah — Hundreds of loved ones, caregivers, and supporters of Utahns living with Alzheimer’s disease will join together on Saturday, August 19, for the Summit/Wasatch County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the Basin Recreation Center trailhead, located at 1388 Center Drive in Park City. To register, volunteer or make a donation to any of the Utah Walks to End Alzheimer’s, find more information here.

This is one of the seven Alzheimer’s Association of Utah Walks to End Alzheimer’s in 2023, and it aims to raise funds for essential services and research to find a cure. The Walk has set a fundraising goal of $135,000, while all seven Utah Walks aim to achieve a target of $404,500.

“This disease annually kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined,” Moriah Mason, development manager for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah, said in a press release. “It’s time we put an end to Alzheimer’s.”

With over 6.7 million Americans affected, including 34,000 Utahns, Alzheimer’s is a pressing issue. Additionally, over 99,000 unpaid caregivers in Utah support their loved ones and it is the seventh-leading cause of death, lacking prevention and a cure. However, the proceeds from the Walks serve as the primary source of funds for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah. These funds enable the association to provide crucial information, programs, and services for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their families and caregivers. All of these services are provided completely free of charge.
