The Summer Solstice is Wednesday, June 21, yet cold temps prevail

PARK CITY, Utah – The 2023 Summer Solstice is upon us, but the weather feels more like mid May than June. The forecast for Wednesday is a low of just 38 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a cold front moving into Northern Utah will cause temperatures to be 15 degrees below seasonal averages for the Summer Solstice.  Wednesday will also be the longest day and shortest night of the year.

According to the NWS, the summer solstice occurs when one of Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the summer solstice is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year, when the Sun is at its highest position in the sky.
