One missing, another seriously injured following ice climbing accident

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah — One person is missing and another has been seriously injured after an ice climbing accident near Indian Canyon in Duchesne County yesterday. 

An ice column fell while a group of three climbers attempted to climb an ice falls, according to a statement from the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. 

One of the climbers was uninjured and was able to climb down and drive to Duchesne City where they called 911.

Another climber fell approximately 40 feet and was transported by helicopter and Life Flighted to the Wasatch Front with serious injuries. 

The Duchesne, Utah and Wasatch County Search and Rescue teams along with volunteer ice climbers are currently conducting search and rescue efforts for the third climber, who is still missing.

The names of the climbers have not yet been released.
