Mudslide causes multiple accidents and traffic delays on I-80 East
UTAH — Dropping temperatures, winds, and precipitation were present as expected early on Thursday morning, but what wasn’t planned was a mudslide. Traffic was stopped on I-80 East at milepost 133 near the exit toward Emigration Canyon and Mountain Dell as a result of a mudslide taking place earlier this morning. Multiple vehicles crashed in the area of milepost 132, which is fairly close to the canyon’s entrance.
Minor injuries were reported, and the roadway was shut down while the debris was cleared. As of 9:15 this morning, all lanes are open.
Many on social media were advising to bypass I-80 altogether and go through Provo Canyon to travel east.
