Interlodge in effect after Alta Ski Area reaches historic 800 inches of snow
SALT LAKE CITY — Alta Ski Area will remain closed today after becoming the first Utah ski resort to boast a record-breaking 800 inches of snow this season.
Alta crossed the 800 inch threshold at approximately 6 a.m. this morning, and as of 12 p.m., the resort has received a historic 809 inches of total snow this winter.
This new total smashes Alta’s previous record of 748 inches of snow received during the 1981-1982 winter season.
For those that are at Alta today despite the resort’s closure, an interlodge is still in effect. SR 210 is currently closed for avalanche mitigation, and according to the Utah Department of Transportation, the road has no estimated opening time.
“Thank you for your continued patience during this endless snowy winter,” Alta Ski Area said in a Twitter post.
