Deer Valley in talks with Extell to run Mayflower Mountain Resort

PARK CITY, Utah — The president of Deer Valley revealed on Tuesday that the company is currently in talks with developers to operate Mayflower Mountain Resort.

Mayflower Mountain, located in Wasatch County, is slated to be North America’s newest world-class alpine village to be developed since 1981. The resort is currently under development by the New York City-based Extell Development Company.

Todd Bennett, president and COO of Deer Valley, spoke on a potential partnership between Deer Valley and Extell during the 29th annual leadership community forum hosted by Leadership Park City on March 21 at the Park City Library.

The forum focused on the ski industry’s state. It brought together big names such as Deirdra Walsh, vice president and COO of Park City Mountain, Nathan Rafferty, president and CEO of Ski Utah, and Ralf Garrison, travel industry expert, in addition to Bennett.

According to Bennett, dialogue with Extell has gone in a positive direction so far, although the two companies have not yet reached an agreement.

“We continue to talk with Extell on the opportunity,” he said. “It’s a big opportunity.”

Bennett announced that if ski-only Deer Valley were to operate Mayflower Mountain, snowboarding would also be banned at the new resort.

“If it does go forward, first and foremost, we’re going to maintain the Deer Valley character and legacy,” he said. “If it’s run by Deer Valley, it will be Deer Valley, and it will continue to be everything you know of Deer Valley, so there would not be snowboarding on the Mayflower side if we are the operators.”
