SCSO urges owners of unclaimed property to come forward before January deadline

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office issued a public notice today asking the owners of unclaimed property used in previous cases to come forward.

“The Summit County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Unit is currently in possession of found property and property that was seized as evidence for cases that have been adjudicated or closed,” said a statement from the SCSO. “The legal owners of these items are either unknown or have failed to respond to the Sheriff’s Office’s reasonable attempts to contact them.”

According to the SCSO, some of these items include electronics, wallets and purses, jewelry, cash, tools, firearms, and bicycles.

If you believe you may be the owner of the property in custody, contact the evidence custodian at 435-615-3671. Property not claimed within two weeks will be disposed of on January 2, 2023.

“Proof of ownership, as well as verification of eligibility to possess the unclaimed property, will be required,” said a statement from the SCSO.
