PSA: Phone scammers impersonating Summit County Sheriff

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has issued a statement regarding the latest scam targeting Summit County residents. A caller is reaching out to residents pretending to be Captain Andrew Wright and Chief Deputy Frank Smith as a way to try and get money.

SCSO affirms they will never make a call to require payment over the phone. This applies to any government agent or business in regards to sending money via cash apps, gift cards, wire transfers, etc.

When anyone calls that meet this description, the recommendation is to hang up and not give any information that could identify who you are.

Call the entity directly to make the payment if you do owe any bills.

For further questions and to talk to a deputy, call (435) 615-3601.
