How to extinguish campfires
PARK CITY, Utah — Camping season unofficially kicks off this weekend with many headed to the great outdoors, and campfire safety is essential in preventing wildfires.
Here are some steps to put out your blaze courtesy of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM):
Drown — bring plenty of water to extinguish your fire.
Stir — after drowning the fire, stir it with a stick or shovel. Dirt is useful for putting out a fire.
Feel — with the back of your hand, make sure the fire is cold to the touch. If it is still warm, repeat steps 1-3.
Always make sure your campfire is completely out and cold to the touch before leaving. Be safe out there!
