Winter Olympian Maame Biney lives in Park City, trains in Salt Lake City

OGDEN, Utah — It’s official, Maame Biney will be representing the United States in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Bejing. Biney will return to the Winter Olympics, after winning the second 500m final at U.S. Short Track Olympic Trials for Speed Skating.

Born in Accra, Ghana, Biney moved to the U.S. when she was five and discovered the ice soon after with a switch from figure skating to speed skating. According to Team USA, she also practiced and competed in taekwondo until 2015.

Originally from Reston, Virginia via Ghana, Maame graduated from the University of Utah. She currently resides in Park City.
