Snowmobiler dies in Summit County after falling and hitting tree

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A 67-year-old woman from Delaware was pronounced dead on Monday after a snowmobile accident on Sunday in the Soapstone area near Samak in Summit County, according to Utah State Parks.

The woman was out riding snowmobiles with her husband (on separate snowmobiles) when she “left the trail and traveled down a steep incline where she then struck a tree.”

She was wearing a helmet but sustained severe head, neck, and back injuries. Her husband called for help, and Utah State Park rangers along with Summit County Search and Rescue responded to the area early Sunday afternoon. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation as of Monday.

“The Utah Division of State Parks encourages all off-highway vehicle riders to continue wearing their helmets, taking the appropriate education courses, and riding within their ability. More information on Utah’s off-highway vehicle laws and rules can be found online at ohv.utah.gov.”
