Park City Hockey’s hat trick helped in a big way for a big win

PARK CITY, Utah — Last night’s hockey game between Park City’s division one (D1) and Utah County’s South County Llamas was won by Park City 7 – 1. This was the second time Park City played the Llamas this season. The first time Park City won 5 – 1.

Liam Vanvalkenburgh, #63, scored Park City a hat trick of three goals in the game. Teammate and defender Jackson Slomiak scored two goals, and Rigan McIntosh and TJ Griswold each had one for Park City.

“South County should be commended for their effort, as they only had eight skaters and a goalie last night as compared to Park City’s nearly full bench,” Park City athlete-parent Jennefer Traeger told me.

“I thought the team performed well tonight. We were moving the puck well, and I’m seeing our players really starting to understand the play away from the puck like our coaching staff is trying to teach. The game would have looked a lot different if South County had a full lineup, so we have to tip our hat to their effort tonight as well,” Park City Coach Jack Skille said in a statement. “With playoffs on the horizon, we’re focusing on the same things we have all year, consistent effort throughout the lineup, play away from the puck, honing in on our team structure, and playing together. If we continue to improve, we should be excited for what’s in store for this group.”
