Summit County Search & Rescue finds missing snowmobiler

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County Search and Rescue (SAR) was hard at work during the holiday weekend.

Around 3:15 pm on Christmas Eve, SAR received a report about a missing snowmobiler in the Whitney Basin area. The caller was concerned because of the length of time that had passed and the approaching storm.

The team deployed and searched throughout the night in “white out conditions.”

After a short break at the warming hut, teams resumed the search in the Christmas morning light.

“Subject was located later in the morning on Christmas day cold and tired with injuries common with being exposed to cold weather,” SAR said in a post.

“Teams were off the mountain and home later Christmas day to spend time with families.”

On December 26, SAR assisted with a backcountry medical mission in the Pine Mountain area in Weber Canyon.
