Sierra Quitiquit talks climate change and Park City with POW

PARK CITY, Utah. — Pro skier and fashion model, Sierra Quitiquit was born and raised in Park City. She is an Alliance Member of Protect Our Winters (POW), a non-profit working to combat climate change and its impact on winter.

POW was founded by snowboarding pioneer Jermy Jones. The organization works to embrace renewable energy and new technologies to help achieve carbon neutrality. Ultimately, POW works to endorse political figures that advocate curbing global carbon emissions to preserve winters for skiing and snowboarding.

Sierra has come a long way from growing up in Park City. She’s starred in Warren Miller ski movies (Ticket to Ride), she’s surfed, she skates, and she models for brands like Athleta, Nike, and American Eagle.

Beyond the runways and the slopes, Sierra Quitiquit is also an environmental activist. She founded Plastic Free Fridays. It’s an organization that does just that, it promotes people to avoid using plastics on Fridays.

Recently, Quitiquit worked with POW to produce a short video speaking about the impact of climate change on the Park City community. She mentions wildfire smoke and lack of snow as indicators for change in Park City.
