Wildfire mitigation work to begin on Treasure Hill on Sep. 27
PARK CITY, Utah — Starting on Monday, September 27, a contractor hired by Park City Municipal will begin defensible space and wildfire mitigation work on Treasure Hill in Old Town.
Treasure Hill was purchased by the City in an open space deal in 2018. The work will include cutting, chipping, removing, and hauling materials.
“We provide a defensible space clearing abatement on City-owned property where there are structures within 100 feet of our property,” said Heinrich Deters, Trails & Open Space Program Manager at Park City Municipal. “If you were adjacent to our open space, we would take a ruler, and go from zero to 100 feet. Any portion of that 100 feet goes on that City property, we provide applicable clearing on that property… the purpose is to basically show this is what needs to happen. We’re trying to take a lead role in sort of the wildfire mitigation efforts, so residents will take it seriously and do what they need to do on their property.”
The full timeline of the project is weather-dependent, according to Deters. He said they’re going to try to get as much work done as they possibly can “until the snow flies.” He said Fall and Spring are the optimal seasons for this kind of project.
As of now, they’ve identified about five acres of work. Deters emphasized that all work is being done solely on City property.
He said they’ve talked to the houses close to the work area.
