Phishing scam targeting Utahns
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. — The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are urging people to be aware of a new phishing scam.
The scam includes a text message from what appears to be the “Utah Department of Transportation Driver License Validation.” It asks the recipient to enter “invalid or missing” information on a Google form.
Once UDOT and DPS were aware of the phishing scheme, the state contacted Google, who promptly took down the form.
“The state will never ask for this type of information via text message,” said Joe Dougherty, director of public affairs for DPS. “Always be suspicious of unsolicited attempts or links asking for your personal information.”
If you have a problem with your driver’s license, visit driverlicense.utah.gov. The DPS Driver License Division will send all contact through the mail- never over the phone or through email.
The state recommends that anyone who filled out the scam form monitor your credit for fraudulent or unexpected accounts.
