Department of Interior: Indefinite fire prevention order announced
GREEN RIVER, Utah. — The Department of Interior announced an indefinite fire prevention order in Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, and Uintah Counties, Utah.
The order prohibits campfires from using charcoal, wood, other solid fuels, or any ash-producing fuel, except in permanently constructed cement or metal fire pits located in agency-developed campgrounds and picnic areas.
There is no smoking except within an enclosed vehicle, covered areas, developed recreation site, or while stopped in a cleared area of at least three feet in diameter that is barren with no flammable vegetation.
Additionally, fireworks are completely banned.
This order was signed on Friday by BLM Green River District Manager Lance Porter. Individuals violating the order can be subject to fines up to and including $1,000 along with costs associated with fire suppression and post-fire rehabilitation.
There are other actions that are banned by the order including grinding and cutting metal (for more info on fire prevention click here).
The order goes into effect on Friday, June 18, 2021.
