A golfers guide to Park City

PARK CITY, Utah. —  Golfers in Park City have a variety of options and fairways. The list of Park City golf courses includes three public and four private venues:

Park City’s Public Golf Courses:

• Park City Municipal Golf Course
• Canyons Golf at Park City Mountain
• Mountain Dell Golf Course

Park City’s Private Golf Courses:

• Glenwild
• Promontory
• Park Meadows
• Jeremy Ranch

The Park City Municipal Golf Course sits a ‘par 3 distance’ from the base of the ski resort and winds through mature foliage in the shadow of the chairlifts. The Hotel Park City is perched right in the rough with a cool contrasting yurt adjacent, serving as an annexed golf shop space. Golfer can even take a break to stop by the Farmers Market during a round.

The Mountain Dell Golf Course takes a mere 15-minute drive towards Salt Lake City and golfers are thrust into a picturesque valley in which, they very well may get the special opportunity to catch a glimpse of a moose mama and baby wading in the ponds.

The Canyons Golf Course at Park City Mountain boasts a whopping 550 ft. of elevation gain whereby San Francisco’s famous Lombard Street has got nothing on this course’s cart paths. Anchored by an eclectic array of real estate including the Waldorf Astoria, golfers literally meander under the chairlifts and onto actual winter-time ski runs. Sunbathing marmots lounge four-wide amid the meticulously tended, if relatively truncated, fairways that scurry safely into the shady trees as players peacefully pass. Butterflies landing on golf balls is not uncommon, considering the quiet country setting. From babbling brooks to raging rivers, the seasonal snowmelt seemingly asks to play through.

Cart attendant Lauren Morgenthaler, who has recently moved to town from California, welcomes golfers to the course. She is neither a golfer nor a year-round ski employee although she said, “It’s so breathtakingly beautiful here that I’m really thinking about staying here and working here when the snow falls.” Morgenthaler must have heard the old adage around Park City of, ‘The winter brings ’em here, the summer keeps ’em here.’ 

The Canyons course has developed quite a bit since the initial purchase by Vail Resorts.  Tee times for Canyons Golf can be booked by calling 435-615-4728 or online. Tee times may be booked up to one month in advance.
