SNAPPED, 15″ of snow at Canyons Snowstake

PARK CITY, Utah. — Three days after local ski resorts closed for the season, minutes after many around town put away their snowblowers and swapped out their snow tires, the snow started falling. And did not stop. The 1″-2″ in the forecast turned out to be much, much more than that. Drifting and accumulation varied by neighborhood, but the snowstake at Canyons summed up how things were looking around much of Summit County: Buried with 15″ of snow!

Speculation started midday: Will this turn out to be the biggest single day snow total of the entire winter? The irony is hard to swallow after a patchy year – but any and all precipitation welcome as Utah is in the midst of a major drought.

Road trip to Cottonwood Canyon, anyone?
