SNAPPED: Extremely rare bird sighting at Swaner Nature Preserve
PARK CITY, Utah. — Parkite Gail Hecox gave birdwatchers a little something special Friday morning when she hit the nature preserve for a sunny stroll in an attention-grabbing mask she had received as a gift.
The mask is reminiscent of the 17th century plaque doctor mask intended to ward off airborne disease. It was used in France and Italy in the 17th century, consisted of an ankle-length overcoat and a bird-like beak mask, often filled with sweet or strong-smelling substances (commonly lavender), along with gloves, boots, a wide-brimmed hat, and an outer over-clothing garment.
