Summit County Recycling: What Goes in the Bin, What Stays Out

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah. — It remains a puzzle for many as to what is recyclable and what is not through Summit County’s collection services. So, let’s get a few things straight, from what day recycling gets put out to what goes in the bin:

  • Recycling services are bi-weekly throughout Summit County, and residents can find which day of the week Republic Services comes to their neighborhoods on the county website. The 2021 calendar is also live and lists dates recycling services will be postponed due to holidays.
  • Trash and recycling cans must be placed three feet apart and five feet away from any fixed object such as mailboxes or cars, with handles facing the street.
  • Don’t bag recyclable items. (That defeats the purpose of recycling.)
  • YES: plastics #1 – 7, steel and aluminum cans, paper, cardboard (not waxed), shoe boxes (more below).
  • NO: Glass, styrofoam, plastic bags, or wire hangers. All of these items can be recycled at the Park City Recycling Center.

Summit County and Republic Services have a complete list of what can and cannot be recycled curbside below:

Here’s the 2021 Recycling Services Schedule which all county residents should have received in the mail a few weeks ago:
