Downed Power Line Sparks Weber Canyon Fire, Evacuates Residents

OAKLEY, Utah. Late Friday evening, Nov. 6, 2020, a fire caused by downed power line broke out in Weber Canyon. By 1 a.m., Summit County deputies and Search and Rescue began evacuating residents and soon thereafter, the blaze grew to 75 acres.

According to a 2:30 a.m. update on Summit County’s Facebook page, it was determined that the fire posed no threat to homes or other structures in that area and crews waited until morning to make a final assessment. That same update indicated that the fire crews were optimistic about cooler temperatures and moisture aiding in suppressing the fire. Weber Canyon Road reopened by 5 a.m. that morning. No homes were lost.
