Volunteers invited to help clean up Run-A-Muk before winter

Basin Recreation will host two remaining fall cleanups at the popular off-leash area in October

PARK CITY, Utah — Basin Recreation invites dog lovers and community volunteers to help at Run-A-Muk as the popular off-leash area prepares for winter.

Volunteers can stop by from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 16, to help pick up dog waste and other items left behind throughout the 43-acre open space. Buckets, shovels, and gloves will be provided.

The cleanup is one of three scheduled at Run-A-Muk this fall, with a final volunteer day planned for Friday, Oct. 30.

Located below Utah Olympic Park, Run-A-Muk includes 2.8 miles of hiking-only trails where dogs are allowed off leash. Unlike a traditional dog park, the area is maintained largely as natural open space and also provides habitat for wildlife.

Basin Recreation asks visitors to pack out trash and dog waste, stay on designated trails, and keep dogs within sight and under voice control. Dog waste left in the area can affect nearby waterways, including the East Canyon Creek watershed.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and those younger than 18 need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver. Registration and additional volunteer information are available through Basin Recreation.
