Doppelmayr opens expanded Salt Lake City headquarters as ski lift demand grows

The 160,000-square-foot facility expands the company’s Utah manufacturing capacity as resorts across North America invest in new ropeway systems

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Doppelmayr USA has opened an expanded headquarters and manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, nearly doubling its Utah footprint as demand for new ropeway systems continues across North America.

The company celebrated the new headquarters on Oct. 19 with customers, partners and community leaders. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox attended the opening, according to Doppelmayr USA and Cox.

The 160,000-square-foot building includes approximately 120,000 square feet of indoor production and warehouse space and 40,000 square feet of office and training space. Plans also included roughly 68,000 square feet of covered outdoor space. The new building sits directly east of Doppelmayr’s existing headquarters near Salt Lake City International Airport.

Doppelmayr first announced the expansion in 2024, saying its existing facility had become too small as ski resorts continued investing in new lift infrastructure. The company said the project would expand its manufacturing capacity and accommodate a growing workforce.

The larger facility also allows Doppelmayr to manufacture additional lift components in Utah. Industry publication Lift Blog reported that the Salt Lake City operation will now produce conical steel lift towers that previously were manufactured at Doppelmayr’s Austrian operations and shipped to the United States.

The expansion is directly tied to Park City’s ski industry.

Doppelmayr is supplying lifts for Deer Valley Resort’s ongoing expansion. In its 2024-25 annual report, the company said Deer Valley’s project includes 11 new ropeway installations and that Doppelmayr had already built five new chairlifts, three of which began operating during the 2024-25 winter season. The Keetley Express became Deer Valley’s first detachable six-person chairlift.

The Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity approved a post-performance tax incentive for Doppelmayr’s expansion in June 2024. Under the agreement, the company projected adding 130 high-paying jobs in Utah over 10 years, generating an estimated $82.4 million in wages.

Doppelmayr had originally projected construction would begin in early 2025, with production in the new building beginning by mid-2026.

The company has designed and manufactured ropeway systems in Salt Lake City for more than 20 years. Its U.S. headquarters remains at 3160 West 500 South.
