Run-A-Muk welcomes dogs back after monthlong renovations

After a month of weekday closures, Basin Recreation's off-leash area reopens Thursday with resurfaced trails. Volunteers are also invited to help ready it for winter at three fall cleanups in October

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City’s four-legged friends are in for a treat because Run-A-Muk officially reopens Thurs., Sept. 24!

After a month of weekday closures for a trail resurfacing project, the 43-acre off-leash recreation area is ready to welcome dogs and their humans back to the trails.

Unlike most dog parks, Run-A-Muk is maintained in its natural state, allowing dogs to explore Utah in an off-leash setting. But after severe weather damage from the past year, crews began renovations Sept. 2 to help repair the trails and improve long-term durability.

As part of the reopening, Basin Recreation is inviting the community to grab a bucket and a shovel and help prepare Run-A-Muk for winter during its annual fall cleanup. Every fall, volunteers help clean up items left behind, including gloves, balls, bags and plenty of dog poop!

Dozens of dogs visit Run-A-Muk each day, but the area is also home to plants and wildlife that rely on it for food and shelter. In addition to volunteering at the fall cleanup, visitors can help protect the habitat by staying on trails, packing out trash and dog waste and keeping a safe distance from wildlife.
