Park City High School briefly placed on lockdown after accidental alert

The lockdown lasted about two minutes Thursday, and district officials said there was no threat to students or staff.

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City High School briefly went into lockdown Thursday after an alert was accidentally activated, district officials said.

The lockdown began at 11:42 a.m. and was resolved by 11:44 a.m., after officials determined there was no threat to students or staff, district spokesperson Colton Elliott said in a statement.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the school within 90 seconds of the alert, the district said.

“The issue was quickly identified, and the lockdown was officially resolved by 11:44 a.m. with no threat to student or staff safety,” the district said.

The district said teachers and staff and students followed emergency procedures during the brief lockdown.

Under the district’s Standard Response Protocol, a lockdown is called when an active threat or hazard is inside or immediately surrounding a school. The protocol directs students and staff to lock doors, turn off lights, and remain out of sight until law enforcement or school administrators give the all-clear.

The district did not provide additional details about how the alert was accidentally triggered.
