Park City community comes together for third annual Day of Service

PARK CITY, Utah — Over 1,100 volunteers dispatched to locations across the Park City area this Saturday for the third annual Day of Service, which commemorated the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Before dispersing to various projects around town, volunteers gathered at City Park for breakfast and a ceremony, where event organizer Karen Marriott thanked current first responders and spoke to the spirit of the day: that every person can be a first responder — moving towards and helping those in need.
After the program, volunteers headed to 41 different local organizations to help with 44 service projects. These ranged from cleaning the PC Tots daycare to weeding the ranch at the National Ability Center.
Event organizers said PC Tots Executive Director Sue Banerjee was emotional as she expressed her gratitude for all who came to support and clean PC Tots. “To see so many people taking their Saturday morning to support us and our organization —we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the kindness from our community,” she said.
Organizers were also pleasantly surprised by groups and individuals from out of town to participate.
A boys hockey team from Roy, Utah, traveled to help with the creek cleanup at City Park. And a group of 25 university students also traveled from Utah County to participate. Others simply heard about the event while they were in town visiting and decided to join.
Afternoon rain moved in, but many volunteers still returned to City Park for the closing celebration with pizza and Auntie Em’s cookies.
“I love to see everyone in the community coming together, rain or shine — it truly is my favorite day of the year in Park City,” said Marriott.
The volunteer organization plans to hold their fourth annual Day of Service on Sept. 11, 2027.
