PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Ski & Snowboard Nordic Club’s annual 5K brought runners from across the country to Park City on the Fourth of July weekend, part of a day that also marked the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The 42nd annual race — run, walked or strolled — drew 1,000 competitors. It began near the Park City Mountain Resort parking lots, headed east down Golf Course Road, continued onto Payday Drive to a turnaround point, and returned to the finish.
Heidi Volker, Park City Ski & Snowboard’s development director and a three-time Olympian in alpine skiing, told TownLift that the same “families are still part of the companies that started” the event.
Post-race festivities were held in the back parking lot of Cole Sport, including a military jet flyover, a parade on Main Street, kids’ races in City Park, a barbecue, a beer garden, and live music. When the sun went down, a drone show lit up the sky above Park City Mountain.
