Live for Your Luke brings annual 5K, bike ride to Summit County Fair

COALVILLE, Utah — Live for Your Luke will bring back its annual Run/Ride 4 Your Luke on Saturday, Aug. 8, with an inaugural community bike ride alongside the traditional 5k.

Though the event has traditionally been held in September, this year’s move to August comes at the invitation of the Summit County Fair, allowing participants to take part in the race at 8 a.m. before enjoying the fair festivities and parade later in the day. Participants who can’t attend in person can also register for a virtual option.

Founded by Summit County resident Jill Brown following the loss of her son, Luke, to suicide, Live for Your Luke works to increase suicide prevention awareness and connect residents with existing mental health resources throughout the community.

The organization partners with local schools, Summit County Health Department, and other community organizations to promote resources such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the SafeUT app.

“One person can change a life by listening, paying attention, being there,” said Nicole Simister, a board member with Live for Your Luke. “That belief is the heart of everything we do. This event is a chance for our whole community to come together, and every dollar goes right back into prevention here at home.”

Funds raised through the event support suicide prevention education, outreach, and mental health initiatives serving Summit County schools and neighborhoods.

Registration and donations are available at live4yourluke.com.

If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or a suicidal crisis, help is available through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or by visiting 988lifeline.org.
