KAMAS, Utah — The South Summit Aquatic Center in Kamas will host a kids triathlon event on July 25.
Organizers say the High Uintah Kids Tri is a family friendly event with a home town feel, and that it’s a great way to introduce youth to the sport of Triathlon.
Only 100 spots are available and registration is now open. The event is open for ages 4-17. Parents can bike and run with younger children, and life jackets are available for use.
The race begins at 8 a.m. (check in earlier than that), $25 for residents/$30 for non residents.
Race distances:
- 4-6 y.o. – 25 yard Swim – 1 mile Bike – .35 mile Run
- 7-8 y.o. – 50 yard Swim – 2.2 mile Bike – .7 mile Run
- 9-10 y.o. – 100 yard Swim – 3 mile Bike – 1 mile Run
- 11+ y.o. – 150 yard Swim – 4 mile Bike – 1.2 mile Run
Children will be divided into heats, oldest to youngest. Swimming will be snake like fashion: down one lane, under the lane line, and back in the next lane until they reach lane one.
Racers exit the aquatic center to the patio for T1. Helmets and shoes must be worn. T2 is in a fenced area and bikes will be supervised in both T1 and T2. The run portion ends on the South Summit High School track. It’s is a kid friendly route with the course weaving around the school and rec center bus lanes, parking lots, and the high school track.
