PARK CITY, Utah — Park City officials are warning residents about an active email scam targeting people with applications pending before the city’s Planning Department.
According to Park City Municipal, scammers are sending fraudulent emails that appear to come from city staff and instruct recipients to submit payments via wire transfer.
The city emphasized that legitimate emails from Park City employees will always come from a .gov email address and will never direct applicants to make payments through suspicious wire transfer requests.
Anyone who receives one of the fraudulent emails is encouraged to report it to Park City Police’s non-emergency dispatch.
Residents with active planning applications who are unsure whether a message is legitimate can verify any correspondence by calling the Planning Department directly.
