UTAH — As Utah’s motorcycle riding season begins, the Utah Department of Public Safety is urging riders to prioritize training, licensing, and safety gear following the deadliest year for motorcyclists in state history.
According to DPS, 72 motorcyclists were killed on Utah roads in 2025. Officials said more than 75% of those riders did not have a motorcycle endorsement on their driver license, and fewer than 10% had completed a motorcycle safety course.
DPS officials say many of those fatalities were preventable.
“We hope that with additional education, we will see fewer preventable deaths on Utah roadways,” the department said in a statement.
As part of the statewide safety campaign, DPS is offering a 25% discount on motorcycle safety courses.
Officials are encouraging all riders to “get trained, get endorsed and gear up” before returning to Utah roads this spring and summer.
Drivers are also being reminded to stay alert for motorcycles, particularly at intersections and when making left turns, which are among the most common situations for motorcycle crashes.
More information about rider safety courses and available discounts can be found at Ride to Live Utah.
