SALT LAKE CITY — The Park City High School girls golf team won its first state championship Thursday, defeating Juan Diego Catholic High School in a playoff at Glendale Golf Course with a final score of 21-18.
The 4A, two-day competition was sanctioned under the PGA Sections category with a maximum stroke-play scoring format. It ended on the par-4 10th hole after a one-hole playoff.

“It was so gratifying to finally see all our hard work pay off,” Miner sophomore Maddie Hadar told TownLift. “We all agreed that the win that came after an intense playoff was more fulfilling than the initial announcement for our win. I realized that even though people think golf is an individual sport, when it comes down to it, this was all about us coming together as a team to make history.”
The Miners entered the state tournament with momentum, having already won the regional championship earlier this season at Meadow Brook Golf Course in the Salt Lake Valley.
Two seniors anchored the roster: Chloe Aldous, whose season average gross score was 87, and Caroline Labrum, who averaged 102. Hadar carried an 83 average.

The day wasn’t without unexpected drama. While the teams were playing the 16th hole, a woman with no apparent connection to the tournament or venue started a small fire. It was immediately extinguished, no one was injured and play resumed shortly after.
