Park City gallery adds Colorado wood-relief artist Cie Hoover to Main Street roster

Summit Gallery is now showing eight original works by Hoover, whose carved wood pieces draw from mountain landscapes, architecture and his background as a touring musician.

PARK CITY, Utah — Summit Gallery has added Colorado-based artist Cie Hoover to its roster, bringing a collection of carved wood-relief works to its Main Street space.

Hoover’s debut collection at the gallery includes eight original pieces from his recent “Equilibrium,” “Rooted Reset,” and “Open Air” series. The works combine wood carving, wood burning, and painting to create layered, three-dimensional compositions that Hoover describes as “organic contemporary.”

His process treats wood as both material and subject. The pieces draw on natural forms, mountain landscapes, and architectural structures, with carved surfaces that create movement, texture, and shadow.

“We have followed Cie Hoover’s career for a few years and are excited to welcome him to the Summit Gallery roster,” said gallery owner Megan McIntire. “There is a sophistication to his carved reliefs that feels both elegant and approachable. In an increasingly fast-paced and artificial world, Cie’s artwork reminds us to slow down. It is masterfully crafted, refined, natural, and intentional. It feels like a deep breath of fresh air.”

Hoover’s work is also shaped by his previous career as a touring musician. He refers to part of his practice as “visual acoustics,” in which he translates rhythm, sound, and natural patterns into physical form through carved and burned wood.

Based in Ouray, Colorado, Hoover has built a presence in mountain-town art markets across the West. His work is represented by Raitman Art Galleries in Vail and Breckenridge, Colorado, and Piper J Gallery in Lake Tahoe, California. He also operates Cie Gallery, his flagship space in Ouray.

His public art projects include a permanent 18-by-40-foot installation at Durango-La Plata County Airport, along with works in Ridgway, Fraser, and Alamosa, Colorado; Lake Tahoe, Nevada; and a temporary installation at Nashville International Airport.

“Joining Summit Gallery is an incredible milestone,” Hoover said. “Park City has a deeply sophisticated collector base that truly understands the ‘mountain modern’ aesthetic. My work is entirely about showcasing a reverence for nature through the physical experience of texture and dimensionality, and I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful, light-filled space on Main Street to showcase these new works.”

Summit Gallery is at 825 Main St. Hoover’s collection is on display and available for acquisition. For inquiries, visit summit-gallery.com. More information about Hoover’s work is available at CieCreativeCo.com.
