SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County officials have introduced a new emergency siren designed to alert residents when immediate evacuation may be necessary.
Officials say the distinctly different siren tone will be used during critical, life-safety emergencies — most commonly when neighborhoods need to be evacuated, such as during fast-moving wildfires threatening homes.
In a social media announcement, the Sheriff’s Office said, “If you hear this unique tone in your area, it means an emergency is occurring and deputies will be providing instructions over loudspeakers to give you specific direction.”
Residents who hear the siren are advised to pay close attention, listen for instructions, and be prepared to act immediately.
