Police Log: DUI arrest in transit bus crash, multiple drivers cited in ongoing Kearns Blvd construction detours

A hit-and-run involving a High Valley Transit bus and a series of traffic stops tied to the Kearns Boulevard construction zone stand out in this week’s Park City police log. Officers made multiple DUI arrests, including one tied to the bus crash, and cited several drivers for ignoring road closures and detours in active construction areas.

The week also included reports of trespassing, vagrancy, and minor property crimes, along with ongoing wildlife encounters and neighborhood disturbances.

Monday, April 6

Incident: Business assist
A caller reported a vehicle idling in a parking lot on Park Avenue for about an hour.

Incident: Vagrancy
A caller requested to file a report regarding a transient individual repeatedly coming onto a property. Video footage of the individual was available.

Tuesday, April 7

Incident: Impound
Deputies attempted to stop two juveniles riding e-motorcycles who initially tried to evade. They were later located, and the e-motorcycles were impounded due to lack of registration, insurance, and proper licensing. The juveniles were released to their parents.

Incident: Theft
A caller reported items stolen from City Park. Some items had been recovered and were being held in evidence.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller reported unsafe conditions near Monitor Drive, where workers were operating close to the roadway near the Park City MARC.

Incident: Citizen dispute
A caller reported that a man punched her vehicle mirror and slammed his door into her car in the Post Office parking area on Park Avenue.

Incident: Trespassing
Two males and one female were reported on a job site on Iron Mountain Drive, possibly drinking.

Incident: Citizen assist
A caller reported possible damage to a retaining wall after a rental vehicle drove into it on Snow Creek Drive.

Incident: Traffic stop
Multiple drivers were stopped for traveling through a clearly marked road closure on Kearns Boulevard.

Wednesday, April 8

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was stopped near Buffalo Bill Drive and Sidewinder Drive for multiple violations, including no license plate, illegal turn, and no driver’s license in possession.

Incident: Trespassing
A caller reported a man attempting to enter a business multiple times on Kearns Boulevard and harassing an employee.

Incident: Traffic complaint
A caller requested additional traffic enforcement near Monitor Drive and Lucky John Drive due to congestion from a road closure.

Thursday, April 9

Incident: Citizen assist
A caller on Main Street reported possible trespassing by an employee with building access and requested information on reporting.

Incident: Traffic hazard
Two vehicles were reported driving the wrong way through a construction zone near Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard, blocking traffic.

Friday, April 10

Incident: Suspicious
Three individuals were reported drinking in a courtyard on Sidewinder Drive, with one briefly displaying a knife before putting it away.

Incident: DUI
A driver was stopped for traveling 78 mph in a 45 mph construction zone on SR-224. After refusing testing and showing signs of impairment, the driver was arrested on multiple charges including DUI, driving on a suspended license, and no insurance.

Saturday, April 11

Incident: Traffic hazard
Traffic cones were reported scattered across both northbound lanes of SR-224.

Incident: Vagrancy
A male was reported sleeping in a sleeping bag near the BBQ area by the skate park on Sullivan Road.

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was stopped for driving through a closed construction zone on Prospector Avenue and Bonanza Drive.

Incident: Traffic stop
A driver was cited on Kearns Boulevard for driving on the wrong side of the road and failing to obey traffic control signs.

Incident: Wildlife problem
A moose and calf were reported in the roadway near SR-224 and Meadows Drive and were safely moved.

Incident: Hit and run / DUI
A driver ran a red light and struck a High Valley Transit bus near SR-224 and I-80, then fled the scene. The suspect was later located and arrested on charges including DUI and hit and run.

Sunday, April 12

Incident: Non-injury accident
A driver struck a deer near Park Avenue and Thaynes Canyon. The deer ran off and no injuries were reported.

Incident: Property damage
A caller reported a window possibly shot by a pellet gun at a residence on Deer Valley Drive.
