Young artists bring “Nature’s Wonders” to life at Wasatch Back Student Art Show

PARK CITY, Utah — A burst of creativity inspired by the natural world is filling the Kimball Art Center, where more than 1,200 local student artworks are on display for this year’s Wasatch Back Student Art Show.

The exhibition, hosted by the Kimball Center for the Arts, will run through May 3, and it is free and open to the public.

This year, students were encouraged to submit art to complement the show’s theme: Nature’s Wonders. Their artwork investigates the “patterns and rhythms of nature, the science behind them, and the ways humans try to understand the vastness and beauty of the natural world,” according to event organizers.

Alongside work from other local schools, Park City Day School will showcase 140 student pieces in the exhibition. Visual arts teacher Robin Moses expressed pride and gratitude about her students’ participation saying, “It is a distinct honor for our students to exhibit their work in such a beautiful gallery space, alongside that of practicing artists.”

Educators at PCDS said students drew upon their scientific knowledge and creative inquiry to connect classroom learning with artistic expression to explore the many facets of nature’s wonder. For the students, being a part of the exhibition offers an opportunity to engage with the broader artistic community, to experience the work of local artists, and to feel a sense of pride and recognition in seeing their own pieces on display.

This year, the Wasatch Back Student Art Show will be showcased alongside “Returning To Wonder,” which features work by professional artists on themes of awe.

The exhibit will open Friday in an open house that will run from 1-5 p.m.
