Summit County hosts community clean-up at 910 Ranch open space

The county finalized its $55 million acquisition of the 8,588-acre ranch in January, describing it as the largest conservation achievement in Summit County history. Funding came from $15 million in voter-approved open space bond funds and a $40 million U.S. Forest Service grant through the Forest Legacy Program.

The ranch is not yet open to the public while the county develops a formal recreational management plan. Public access is currently limited to East Canyon Road, which is closed to vehicles from Dec. 1 through April 30. County officials have said they hope to have a phased soft opening with pilot recreation projects within the next year.

The March 26 clean-up is among the first organized volunteer events on the property since the acquisition closed.

Organizers will provide trash pickers, bags, and buckets. Participants are asked to wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Gloves will be available, though volunteers are encouraged to bring their own.

A supply tent will be set up at the ranch entrance. Parking is limited to pullouts along the dirt East Canyon Road. Organizers ask that volunteers carpool when possible and not park in the Jeremy Ranch neighborhood or Basin Recreation parking area.
