Sara Sergent breaks new ground as first Gin Distiller in James Beard Semifinalist category

PARK CITY, Utah — The James Beard Foundation has announced the semifinalists for its prestigious 2026 James Beard Awards, and Park City is represented by a historic nomination.

Sara Sergent, master gin distiller at Alpine Distilling, was named a semifinalist for Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service, making her the first gin distiller ever nominated in the category. She is also the only nominee representing Park City this year.

The recognition adds to Park City’s long-standing presence in the James Beard Awards conversation. Local establishments and chefs have earned multiple nominations over the years, including Handle, led by Chef Briar Handly.

Sergent has been actively involved with the James Beard Foundation beyond this year’s nomination. In 2024, she co-hosted a series of James Beard Platform events in New York City alongside several Park City restaurants and chefs, including Riverhorse on Main, Courchevel Bistro, Tupelo Park City, High West Distillery and Stein Eriksen Lodge.

Sergent and her husband, business partner and master whiskey distiller Colonel Rob Sergent, are no strangers to national recognition. Alpine Distilling has earned multiple USA TODAY 10Best awards, further solidifying its reputation within the spirits industry.

The 2026 James Beard Award winners will be announced later this year.
